- It's deja vu all over again. Looking for a picture to put up today I discovered I spent a couple of days here at Percha Dam State Park on my way up the Rio Grande valley to the Bosque National Wildlife Refuge a year ago to the day. I knew it was about this time in January when I passed through but didn't realize the timing was spot on. Ha! - so what? - Now that it's here I'm torn. This day has been in the wind a long long time; now it's here. Verizon announced today they will be selling iPhones beginning February 10th. I've been hanging on to my old LG cell phone for years in anticipation of this day. Now that it's here I'm torn. Trading in my old phone for an iPhone instantly makes my constant companion, my dedicated iPod Touch, redundant. That's ok. The thing is, though, the great leather case I lavished a week developing and making won't fit the new iPhones. So that becomes instantly redundant as well. Arrgh..... - Yesterday my friends Kate & Terry invited me along for a sunset photo shoot of the Sandhill Cranes gathering to roost in the shallow ponds along the highway at the north end of the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. I've seen the cranes flying between their roosting and feeding grounds down at Percha Dam State Park and at Pancho Villa State Park and I've seen them feeding with the cows here and there but this was my first experience of them roosting. We do not destroy this past of ours; it is indestructible. We carry it with us; its record is written deep in our lives. We only refuse to acknowledge it as our true past and try to make it an alien thing - something that did not happen to our real selves.... But this unremembered past endures.... Our buried past is mighty; the ghosts of our father and of the selves that we have been haunt our days and nights though we refuse to acknowledge their presence.
