Hidden Valley RV Park, Tijeras NM

Dawn, Hidden Valley RV Park, Tijeras NM, April 24, 2010
Hidden Valley RV Park is an older 100 site park on a wooded hillside off NM 333 just east of Tijeras, New Mexico with basic gravel sites and full hookups. It's nothing fancy but is quiet (except for I-40 traffic climbing out of ABQ) and clean and handy to Albuquerque. The sites are a little small and close together by today's standards but are quite serviceable.

- So much for Albuquerque. I came here in large part to get the front end checked out and aligned to correct the altered right front tire wear that cropped up on the way out here with the trailer. But once I took a really close look at the tire wear and the mileage on the tire I decided it was not excessive and scuttled the plan. Image: Hickory walking stick, November 8, 2011.

- Well, I moved over near Albuquerque today to get on with my chores here and head south before winter sets in. I didn't get here quite soon enough I guess. It's been snowing lightly this afternoon and overnight temps in the mid twenties are forecast for the next few nights. Bah! Image: On Point, Sumner Lake State Park, Fort Sumner NM, November 4, 2011.

- I drove up to Albuquerque yesterday so I could easily make it to Tom's RV Services and Sales first thing in the morning right on schedule to get the new Dometic refrigerator they ordered for me installed. I and the refrigerator arrived on schedule. However... Image: Poo, Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, San Antonio NM, March 6, 2011.

- The tech at the Genius Bar in the Apple store replaced the swollen battery in my laptop for a not so small fee. I had hoped they would warrantee it but no dice. Man, that store was mobbed! - in an upscale mall with very few folks wandering around the other stores. Apple must be doing something right. - Bah! - I was out too early this morning and besides, I found myself disconcerted by the trees and came back with just a few pictures - all lousy. I haven't had to figure trees into my picture taking for a long time. Image: Dawn, Hidden Valley RV Park, Tijeras NM, April 24, 2010.

- Boy am I going to miss my morning walks in this bounteous Rio Grande valley. I've had a great 3 month stay here at the Bosque, spring is well under way, and now it's time for me to head east for the summer. I'm pulling out today on the first leg of that long journey. Listening
As the poet Gary Snyder said so well, "Beyond all this studying and managing and calculating, there's another level to nature. You can go about learning the names of things and doing inventories of trees, bushes, and flowers. But nature often just flits by and is not easily seen in a hard, clear light. Our actual experience of many birds and wildlife is chancy and quick. Wildlife is known as a call, a cough in the dark, a shadow in the shrubs. You can watch a cougar on a wildlife video for hours, but the real cougar shows herself only once or twice in a lifetime. One must be tuned to hints and nuances." After more than thirty years of living in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and spending a great deal of that time out-of-doors, Snyder has seen the mountain lion on just a few occasions. One of these sightings was most unusual. Gary had been visiting a neighbor and was walking down from the nearby ridge to his home when he observed a cougar sitting near one of the windows of the house. The animal appeared to be listening intently as one of Snyder's stepdaughters practiced the piano.
