Caballo Lake State Park is located on the shores of Caballo Reservoir about 20 miles south of Truth or Consequences NM. This park offers quiet camping along the Rio Grande River below the dam as well as developed full service camping and boating along the lake.

- This was the biggy of the year, the annual full moon when the moon is closest to the earth. I took a bunch of pictures of the moon rising over the cliffs east of the Rio Grande here at the park. - Thought I'd throw in a picture that'll give you a hint of the lay of the land here by the river and my relationship to the cliffs across the river where the Great Horned Owls and bees hang out. The cliff isn't as close to the river as it looks. There's a dirt road between the river and the cliff which puts those owls frustratingly far from my viewfinder. Troops Endure Blowing Sands and Mud Rain
... The single, solitary departure from this pattern came when it suddenly rained in the early evening. What fell from the sky was not water but mud, the rain pulling suspended sand into wet globs and pelting those foolish mortals who thought they could endure a 30- or 40-hour sandstorm. The temperature was just below 100 degrees, and everyone traveling with the military wore protective chemical and biological suits that enclosed the body from head to toe, plus body armor and a helmet. ...
