Western Meadowlark, Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, San Antonio NM, April 4, 2010
Caught out
Some days you're just not ready when the bird flies. On my morning walk I had the camera set up for landscapes with my shorter 28-135mm lens and a slow shutter speed when this beautiful Western Meadowlark launched himself out of the grasses... Ah, well, so be it.

Roses
Out by the road on the far side of the house is a wild rose bush. It's mostly thorns. We never water it or cut it back. It just lives on its own. It makes tiny yellow roses that never relax. I think the buds know that opening up is the beginning of the end.
